Homeless Man Hits 50p Jackpot!

A homeless man was very grateful when he was handed 50p by a kind passerby, only to find out that it is a rare coin worth £400!

The man was sitting outside Greggs on the High Street in Exeter when he was given the coin, but was quickly moved on by police for begging. However, the unnamed man thought it might be special so asked the officers about it. They checked on their phone and found it was, indeed, a specially-minted Beatrix Potter commemorative coin.

The coins were launched by the Royal Mint last year to mark the 150th anniversary of the children’s author and are the first children’s fictional characters to appear on British currency. They proved to be incredibly popular, with collectors snapping up all the silver special editions in just 8 days.

The coins cost £55 new, but can change hands on eBay for more than £600. They are in current circulation but thought to be quite rare.

So, remember to check your change!
