Xmas Dinner For The Homeless Of Liverpool

The Yummy Scouse Christmas event is spearheaded by Chef Simon Whitter, a former homeless man with the message – “no-one should have no-one at Christmas.”

Last year over 1,000 vulnerable and lonely people were invited to share Christmas lunch in eight venues across the city, reports Independent Liverpool. All Saints Kensington was one of those places and they were overwhelmed by the support and generosity of the people and local businesses in Liverpool. Butchers donated meat, fruit and veg people donated what they could and 100s of people volunteered.

With the help of their small army of volunteers who cleaned, peeled, cooked and served 180 three-course meals, wrapped and packed 180 Christmas sacks and hampers, they certainly brought the Christmas spirit to those who would have spent it alone.

Simon told Independent Liverpool: “Each year on Christmas day we strive to help as many vulnerable, marginalised, elderly and homeless people have a great day and show them that they aren’t forgotten.”

“We are raising £2,000 to Try to make Christmas special for all by providing a 3 course dinner and gifts on Xmas day in Liverpool.”

“This is our fourth year now and this year it’s needed more than ever. We have Universal Credit being rolled out across Liverpool meaning some will not have any money, homelessness is increasing and not forgetting the elderly and lonely.”

“We strive to make this as fun as possible and over the past four years we have put a smile on thousands of people’s faces Please help us to do this again.”
